French Bulldog registration requirements
DVL2 [Screwtail] and Adamts3[ Airways Oedema]
All French Bulldogs must complete a pre-breeding health check every 12 months using the MDBA pre-breeding health check form. The results must be sent to the MDBA
- Any new adult French Bulldog breeding dog entering the MDBA registry after 1.12.22 must be tested by DNA for the dvl2 and adamts3 genes. Result documentation is required before acceptance.
- Any French bulldog on MDBA-restricted papers requiring an upgrade to For Breeding papers from 1.12.22 must be tested by DNA for dvl2 and adamts3 genes. Result documentation is required before acceptance.
- Any MDBA breeder member who wishes to register a French Bulldog pup with For Breeding papers as part of their litter from 1.9.23 must have either both parents tested or cleared by parentage, or the pup must be tested for these two genes. Result documentation is required before acceptance.
- As the adamts3 gene is only in approx. 13% of the population any dog with two copies of this gene bred to another with one or two copies of the gene will be considered a serious welfare breach.
- If a stud dog or semen that has not been tested is used, the dam must have zero copies of this gene to ensure no puppies can be affected.
No dogs will be removed from the gene pool or deemed unsuitable for breeding by the MDBA REGARDLESS OF THE RESULTS OF THEIR TESTS. The primary objective is to enable educated breeding decisions to be made and to demonstrate the progress in this breed as we work toward having dogs with less risk of disease. It is not to take the ability to make decisions away from the breeder or to lower the gene pool diversity in any way. We highly recommend these two tests be done sooner rather than later and that results be sent to info@mdba.net.au
